VrhBrača

Route Description

Vrhbrača is an old name for the most eastern part of the island, where the circular route follows macadam road in 16,51 km length. Start in the centre of Selca, a lovely stone-masonry village with a beautiful church and over 10 monuments of various historical figures. The whole village was built exclusively in white stone from the island, characteristic of life and beauty of Brač. The route slowly descends towards the eastern “summit”, ie. the end of the island, all the way down to an old settlement Rasotica, established at the far end of a deep bay. Continue along the macadam road, southwards through many lonely bays until you reach a quiet fishing village Sumartin, which is connected to the mainland town of Makarska via ferry. The route goes up the hill towards Novo Selo and Selca, where you can taste olive oil right in the middle of its main square. Many different paths can lead you to the pre-romantic church of St. Nicholas from the 11th-12th ct, the oldest testament from the Middle age and the symbol of the island.
